How online casinos work in Ontario
Ontario opened its regulated online casino market on 4 April 2022. Private operators can offer casino games if they register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, a subsidiary of the AGCO. Before that, the only legal option was the government-run PlayOLG.
To play, you must be 19 or older and physically in Ontario. Licensed casinos check your location when you log in and verify your identity before your first withdrawal. Games must be tested and certified, player funds are kept separate from company money, and every site must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.
How to check a casino is licensed in Ontario
- Open iGaming Ontario’s list of regulated sites.
- Find the casino’s name and check that the web address matches the one you’re on. Licensed sites usually end in .ca or use an “on.” address.
- Look for the iGaming Ontario logo and the AGCO registration in the site’s footer.
If a casino isn’t on the list, it isn’t legal in Ontario, however professional it looks. More detail in our licence-check guide.
Payment methods at Ontario casinos
Interac e-Transfer is the most widely accepted method and usually the quickest way to get paid. Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere, and some casinos also take PayPal, iDebit, MuchBetter or online banking. All amounts are in Canadian dollars. Your first withdrawal takes longer because the casino has to verify your ID. That’s a legal requirement, not a stalling tactic.
Why you won’t see bonuses here
Ontario’s rules (AGCO Standard 2.05) don’t allow casinos or their partners to advertise bonuses or free spins anywhere outside the casino’s own site. Sites showing big welcome offers to Ontario players are either breaking the rules or aren’t licensed here. Licensed casinos show their promotions after you log in.
